Our free corrupted text generator rebuilds your words using six different corruption techniques — from authentic mojibake encoding errors to stacked Unicode damage. Type once, compare all six side by side, and copy the one that fits with a single click. No sign-up, no limits, and it runs entirely in your browser.

How to Use the Corrupted Text Generator

  1. Type or paste your text into the input box above. Usernames, bios, chat messages and full sentences all work.
  2. Drag the corruption level slider. At 1% the damage is barely visible; at 100% the text is almost unreadable. Around 40–60% usually survives platform filters while still looking broken.
  3. Compare the six styles. Each one uses a genuinely different method, so they fail and survive in different places.
  4. Hit Copy next to the style you want and paste it into Discord, Instagram, TikTok, Roblox or anywhere else that accepts plain text.
  5. Press Reroll to shuffle the randomised styles and get a fresh variation of the same text.

What Corrupted Text Actually Is

"Corrupted text" is not one effect. It is a family of them, and most generators only produce one. People arrive looking for very different things: the garbled ’ mess that shows up when a file opens with the wrong encoding, the vertically exploded Zalgo look, the replacement diamond that appears when a character cannot be displayed, or letters quietly swapped for near-identical ones from another alphabet.

This tool covers all of them. Everything it produces is standard Unicode, so it travels as plain text rather than as an image. That is why you can paste it into a username field or a bio where image-based effects are impossible.

The Six Corruption Styles Explained

1. Data Corruption (Mojibake)

This is the one almost nobody else generates properly. Mojibake happens when text encoded as UTF-8 is read as if it were Windows-1252, so every multi-byte character explodes into two or three wrong ones. The tool reproduces that byte-level mistake for real rather than faking it with lookalike symbols, which is why the output reads like a genuinely broken file rather than a decorative font.

Best for: fake error messages, ARG and creepypasta props, "my save file is corrupted" jokes, and retro computing aesthetics.

2. Glitch Static

Combining diacritical marks from the U+0300–U+036F block are stacked above and below each letter. The slider controls how many marks land on each character, so you can go from a light shimmer to a dense mess. This is the closest style to classic Zalgo, with the marks spread in both directions rather than only upward.

Best for: Discord messages, horror captions, and anywhere you want visible damage that still leaves the words readable.

3. Homoglyph Swap

Latin letters are replaced with visually near-identical characters from Cyrillic and Greek — a Latin o becomes a Cyrillic о, e becomes е, p becomes р. The text still looks almost normal to a human but is completely different underneath.

Best for: usernames that need to look clean rather than damaged, and claiming a name that resembles one already taken. Note that some platforms detect mixed-script names and may reject or flag them, so test before committing to one.

4. Bit Rot

Random characters are destroyed and replaced with the Unicode replacement character and block glyphs — , █, ▓, ▒, ░. This mimics storage decay, where parts of a string survive intact and others are simply gone.

Best for: the "damaged transmission" look, horror game dialogue, and glitch art where you want gaps rather than noise.

5. Garbled Scramble

Rather than adding anything, this style destroys the text from inside. Letters within each word are shuffled while the first and last stay put, and casing is randomised. Nothing is added to the string, so it survives every filter that strips combining marks.

Best for: platforms that reject Zalgo entirely, and any field with a strict character limit — this style never makes your text longer.

6. Void Corruption

Heavy below-baseline marks from U+0316–U+0333 drag the text downward, with occasional strike-through overlays mixed in. Where Glitch Static spreads in both directions, this one sinks — closer to the void and demonic aesthetic.

Best for: horror usernames, cursed captions, and anything that should look like it is being pulled under.

Which Style Survives Where

Platforms treat these techniques very differently. Combining marks are the most commonly stripped; scrambles and homoglyphs almost always get through because they add no extra characters. Use this as a starting point and always test in the actual field before committing.

StyleAdds length?Usually survivesOften stripped by
Data CorruptionYes (2–3×)Discord, Instagram captions, TikTokStrict username fields
Glitch StaticYes (heavily)Discord, Instagram biosRoblox usernames, PUBG
Homoglyph SwapNoAlmost everywherePlatforms with mixed-script detection
Bit RotNoDiscord, captions, chatFields that reject symbols
Garbled ScrambleNoEverywhereNothing
Void CorruptionYes (heavily)Discord, biosMost username fields

If a platform rejects your text, drop the corruption level before assuming the style is unusable — most filters trigger on the number of combining marks per character, not on their presence. For a field-by-field breakdown of one platform, see our guide on whether glitch text works on PUBG.

Corrupted Text vs Zalgo vs Cursed Text

These three terms get used interchangeably, but they describe different things:

Common Uses for Corrupted Text

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this corrupted text generator free?

Yes. Unlimited use, no account, no download. Everything runs in your browser and your text is never uploaded anywhere.

Why does my corrupted text turn into boxes or question marks?

Empty boxes mean the app you pasted into is using a font that has no glyph for those characters. The text itself is intact — it just cannot be drawn. Switching style usually fixes it: Garbled Scramble and Homoglyph Swap use far more widely supported characters than the combining-mark styles.

Can I undo corrupted text back to normal?

Partly. Glitch Static, Void Corruption and Homoglyph Swap are reversible in principle because the original letters are still present. Bit Rot and Garbled Scramble genuinely destroy information, so the original cannot be recovered from the output. Keep a copy of your original text before corrupting it.

Will corrupted text get me banned?

Using it in your own bio, messages or username is normal decorative use on every mainstream platform. Two things do cause problems: very heavy combining marks that break other people's layouts, which some Discord servers moderate, and homoglyph names used to impersonate someone else, which most platforms treat as a real violation. Keep the level moderate and do not imitate another account.

Does it work on mobile?

Yes. The tool and the copy button work on iOS and Android browsers. Rendering of heavy combining marks varies more on mobile than desktop, so check how your text looks in the destination app before posting.

What is the difference between this and a glitch text generator?

A glitch text generator usually produces one adjustable effect based on combining marks. This tool gives you six separate corruption methods, including encoding damage and character destruction that mark-based generators cannot produce at all.
